QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK

QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK

This park was founded in the year 1952 as Kazinga National Park. Two years later it was renamed to commemorate a visit by Queen Elizabeth II. The park occupies an estimated total area of 1,978km2 located on the western region of Uganda. It includes the Maramagambo Forest and borders Kigezi Game Reserve, Kyambura Game Reserve, Kibale National Park, and the Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The park together with the adjacent Virunga National Park are a Lion Conservation Unit. The area would be considered a potential lion stronghold in Central Africa, if poaching is curbed and prey species recover. The park holds dear a partnership with Queen Elizabeth Country Park in England and supports conservation through empowering local communities. Eye flattering landscapes, plenty of both wildlife and birdlife are some of the features the park boasts.
